"Hannah and Hanna" comes to the

Brant Broughton Meeting House

Under the general heading of "Outreach" it was decided to  put on a play in the Meeting House in conjunction with the Nottingham-based "Lace Market Theatre". There will be a button at the end of this section that will take you to their website for more information about the company itself. We were not sure how well it might fit into our small Meeting House setting but the two young actresses adapted themselves to the "intimate" setting well and the play was deemed to be a great success. As the photos below show, we had an interesting afternoon in late May rearranging the furniture in the Meeting House with the Lace Market Theatre production team to find a shape that fit everything in. "Where there's a will, there's a way..." Click on the photos in the gallery to open at full view.

We hope to do more of this sort of thing in the coming months and years.

Here is a small synopsis of the play:

Hannah and Hanna is a powerful and poignant play about prejudices, differences, conflict, shared moments and belting out the songs of Steps and Abba. It won the Herald Angel at the 2001 Edinburgh Festival and is being toured again by (the) Nottingham Lace (Theatre).
Hannah is a teenager. She loves her family and her boyfriend, Bullfrog, and getting lost in the world of karaoke. If only she did not hate Margate – especially the influx of Kosovo War refugees that have flooded into her home town.
Hanna is a Kosovan refugee. She loves Margate. She also loves music and dancing. if only the inhabitants of her new town were more welcoming.

We had the opportunity to meet the company and discuss their exciting projects over tea, coffee and CAKE after the show.
